Pricing management - tracking user discounting and change of job pricing
This guide covers how quoting details are stored so you can track if users are discounting prices versus what your pricing table price. It also shows how the system will suggest pricing changes when job types are changed or lead sources with custom fee scales are updated.
How initial pricing data is displayed:
Quote form: the pricing notes on the quote will show the pricing table that was used to calculate the fee. It will show £0.00 if there is no pricing available.
Post API: this will also show the pricing table used or a note that the price was provided in the posted data.
Lead gen sites: this will note that the price was provided in the posted data (apart from the CMM feed where we calculate the fee).
Top tip: if you want to provide bespoke pricing to customers but you want your team to see a suggested price, you can set up your pricing tables and set your quoting preference to bespoke. The customer will not see a price, but the pricing notes will show what price the job should be ready for you to submit. This means you can still track if the price submitted matches your pricing matrix.
This feature will also help you to see which pricing table a price has come from so you can check why a certain quote was given if you think it should have been a different value.
Tracking user discounting
You may want to track what prices your team are submitting versus what your pricing table has suggested. The pricing note on the section above is not editable. This allows you to view on each job what the survey quote is versus the pricing note.
To compare across all surveys in bulk, you can export your quote table data and include:
- Pricing table value (the value the pricing table shows or original price sent in)
- Pricing table name
- Discount code
- Discount amount (any discount applied in the discount field)
- Survey quote (the actual survey quote after a user has edited it)
- Total quote (the survey quote minus a discount added)
You can then compare in the exported spreadsheet quickly where any quotes drop below the pricing table value to find out why discounts are being given. A user may apply a discount via the discount field or edit the quote down which you can’t track without comparing it to the pricing table value.
Suggested pricing when changing job data
As well as our note above where you can bespoke price and still see on the quote section what the pricing table shows, the system can help you quote when making changes.
If you update:
- Job type
- Referrer (where custom fee scales are being used)
You will see a pop-up appear asking if you want to:
- Accept the suggested pricing table edit
- Edit the price suggested from the table
- Cancel/reject the pricing suggestion entirely, keeping the survey or referrer change but without changing the fee.
Note: this will only change the price on the job, but will not alert the customer. Alerts are only triggered via the What’s next and Key status sections.
